Desde tiempos remotos, los bosques han servido a la humanidad como una importante fuente de recursos: alimento, combustible, material de construcción… Una importancia que ha llevado a que en todas las épocas haya habido una debida atención por su correcta ordenación y explotación a través de la denominada silvicultura y en tiempos más recientes por las disciplinas dasonómicas. Los Distritos Forestales son, en definitiva, la fuente documental primaria que reúne la manera en la que se han administrado los bosques españoles a lo largo del siglo XIX y XX siendo una pieza fundamental para entender el estado actual de las masas forestales españolas y su evolución a lo largo de la Edad Contemporánea. El objetivo de este artículo es el de comprender la historia de estas instituciones, todavía sin tratar desde un punto de vista archivístico, atendiendo a su Historia Institucional y la identificación de sus principales series documentales; dos tareas necesarias para la finalidad última de estas páginas: la propuesta de un cuadro de clasificación que pueda ayudar a allanar el camino a los futuros trabajos archivísticos que se realicen sobre estos fondos.
Since ancient times, forests have provided humankind with an important source of resources: food, fuel, construction material... An importance that has led throughout the ages to proper management and exploitation through the so-called silviculture and, in more recent times, through the dasonomic disciplines. The Forestry Districts are, in fact, the primary documentary source that brings together the way in which Spanish forests have been managed throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, being a fundamental piece to understand the current state of Spanish forests and their evolution throughout the Modern Age. The aim of this article is to understand the history of these institutions, as yet untreated from an Archival perspective, by looking at their Institutional History and identifying their main documental series; two necessary tasks for the ultimate aim of these pages: the proposal of a Classification Scheme that can help to prepare the way for future archival work to be carried out on these fonds.
